Rethinking nutrition for neuroendocrine tumours:
a resource to improve quality of life

Have you ever imagined what life would be like if eating and nutrition became a daily struggle?

For people living with neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), this is often an everyday reality. For them, a cosy dinner with family or friends can quickly turn into a stressful and uncomfortable experience, as NETs, though rare, can profoundly impact digestion, causing poor appetite, diarrhoea, or stomach cramps. Combined with the side effects of cancer therapies, these challenges often result in weight loss, muscle depletion, and reduced strength, ultimately affecting quality of life and treatment outcomes.

However, insights from both patients and clinicians show that nutrition-related issues often get overlooked in day-to-day clinical practice. Patients face generic advice which is either hard to implement in everyday life or not tailored to their specific needs. This often leaves them frustrated and leads to them consulting unreliable online resources.

Addressing a central concern

To meet this urgent need, we created a nutrition eBook particularly intended for patients with NETs in collaboration with a leading expert. It provides practical, easy-to-understand advice to help manage symptoms, explains the dietary impact of specific NETs while also addressing nutritional challenges after gastrointestinal surgery – all without overwhelming patients with complexity. It’s not a cookbook, but rather a portable resource providing all relevant background information and hands-on tips, helping patients to navigate nutrition in a way that feels manageable and empowering. It supports people with NETs on their individual journey and, most importantly, serves as a conversation starter with healthcare providers.

Ensuring accessibility and breaking language barriers

The eBook format offers flexibility, allowing readers to access information on various devices and revisit sections whenever and wherever they need it. As nutritional advice only works if you truly understand it, the eBook is available in multiple languages, fostering inclusivity and enhancing understanding. Moreover, it can be continuously updated to reflect the latest research and standard of care, thus ensuring the information stays current and reliable.
