The art of web design

Let’s talk about web design and how to enhance user experience with graphical and design elements.

We have come a long way since the beginning of the internet when websites emulated print design and presented web pages like brochures with reams of difficult-to-read text. Now, we entice the visitor with clearly structured pages that contain visual elements, links to audio and video recordings.

What do we bear in mind when designing your website?
A simple and clean design within your corporate or product identity will help guide the visitors through your site. Choose a harmonious, trendy blend of colours that will appeal to the eye. We take great care selecting other elements like the shapes of diagrams and the font. In fact, the importance of choosing the right font is often underestimated.

This sounds like kindergarten to you? Then you are exactly right. A playful approach is key to improving your web analytics. Many of our clients have found that including gaming and competition elements boost the number of visits and time spent on the site.

This is particularly true in the area of healthcare communication. A discipline that is renowned for its complex content and sometimes elaborate jargon. If you want to appeal to tired doctors who read your website after completing their shift in the clinic, it needs to be worthwhile, fun and easy to read. There are different learner types who we need to appeal to differently if we want them to stay on our sites and take in our messages. Choosing icons to sign-post your site will make it easier to read rather than many lengthy headings. A mode of action video will do more than a lengthy script: a cartoon illustrating a possible doctor-patient- dialogue is likely to find more viewers than a set of do’s and don’ts.

How is this different from what any other designer will tell you?
Designing collateral and websites in healthcare is governed by a complex set of rules and regulations. We have successfully supported healthcare design projects for many years and have found solutions to many a challenge. Creating awareness for a medical product is serious business. It takes both sensitivity and delicacy to make your product shine – and to make it stand out from the crowd.
